Your First Competition

A quick-start guide to joining or creating your first competition.

Updated over 2 months ago

Joining a Competition

The easiest way to start is by joining a competition that a friend has already created.

If you have an invite link: Tap the link your friend shared with you (via text, email, etc.). The app will open directly to the competition. Tap Join Competition to enter.

If you have a competition code: Open the app, go to the Competitions tab, and tap the Join button. Enter the competition code and tap Join.

If a friend invited you in-app: You'll receive a notification. Tap it to view the competition details, then tap Join Competition.

Creating a Competition

Ready to challenge your friends? Here's how to set one up:

Step 1: Competition Info — Go to the Competitions tab and tap the + button. Give your competition a fun name (e.g., "Weekend Warriors"), set your Start Date and End Date, and choose whether it repeats. You can also toggle Private on if you want only invited friends to join.

Step 2: Scoring Method & Team Mode — Choose how participants earn points:

  • Ring Close Count — Points for closing each activity ring.

  • Percentage of Goals — Points based on goal completion percentage.

  • Raw Numbers — Points for every calorie, minute, and hour.

  • Step Count — Points for every step taken.

  • Workout-Based — Points only during specific workout types.

On the same screen, you can toggle on Team Mode to turn it into a team competition. Choose between 2, 3, or 4 teams — participants will join a team when they enter.

Step 3: Prize Pool (Optional) — Want to make things interesting? Toggle on Add Prize Pool to add a real-money prize. Choose your funding type:

  • I'll Fund It — You pay the full prize and participants join free.

  • Everyone Buys In — Each participant pays to join, and the pool grows as players join.

Pick a prize amount ($10, $25, $50, $100, or a custom amount from $5–$500), then select a payout structure: Winner takes all, 70/30 split, or 50/30/20 split. A small processing fee is added to the total. You can also skip this step and add a prize pool later from competition settings.

Step 4: Invite Friends — Select friends from your friends list to compete, or tap Add to invite new people. You can skip this step and invite friends after creating the competition.

Step 5: Review & Pay — If you added a prize pool, you'll see a summary of your competition details, including the prize amount, processing fee, and total charge.

Tap Confirm & Pay to create the competition. If there's no prize pool, simply confirm, and your competition is live!

How Scoring Works

Once a competition starts, everyone's activity syncs automatically from their connected fitness tracker. The leaderboard updates throughout the day—you don't need to log anything manually.

Your score is based on the scoring method you selected. In a Step Count competition, for example, the person with the most total steps at the end wins. In a Ring Close Count competition, you earn points each time you close an activity ring.

Understanding the Leaderboard

The leaderboard shows every participant ranked by their current score. You can see each person's rank and current score, how far ahead or behind you are compared to others, score trends over the course of the competition, and a progress bar showing the competition timeline.

Tips for Your First Competition

  • Start with a 7-day competition to get a feel for the pacing.

  • Choose Step Count scoring if this is everyone's first time — it's the most straightforward.

  • Invite 3–5 friends for the best experience. Enough people to feel competitive, but small enough that everyone stays engaged.

  • Check the leaderboard daily to stay motivated and see how you compare.
